Birmingham handyman fined £600 plus £1,799 costs for asbestos release during kitchen refurbishment

Despite being warned by the landlord that they contained asbestos, and without carrying out any checks, William Rogers removed partition walls during a kitchen refurbishment in Olton in January 2011.  As a result he contaminated the kitchen, the communal stairs and the area outside, before loading the material into his car.  All had to be decontaminated.

Mr Rogers pleaded guilty at Solihull Magistrates Court on 7 November 2011 to breaching Regulation 5 and Regulation 11(1)(a) of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006.
