City and Guilds New Roads and Street Works Operatives

Who is it for?

For people without current New Roads and Street Works quailfications who  need to register with the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR).

Under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) any person or organisation undertaking work on a street or public roadway has a duty to ensure the work is carried out under the control of a competent person.

What are the benefits?

SWQR Registered people can work as New Roads and Steet Works (NRSW) Operatives

Recognition?

To be a qualified operative, workers must hold a Street Works card.  Cards are awarded by the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) on registration. In order to register, individuals must hold the necessary current qualifications

Course content

Unit 1 Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus

Unit 2 Signing, Lighting & Guarding

Unit 3 Excavation in the Road/Highway

Unit 4 Reinstatement and Compaction of Backfill Materials

Unit 5 Reinstatement of Sub-base and Roadbase in Non-Bituminous Materials

Unit 6 einstatement in Cold-lay Bituminous Materials

Unit 9 Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces and Concrete Footways

Further development

Although not a pre-requisite, this course is usefeul for anyone wishing to become qualified as a Street Works Supervisor

How is the course assessed?

Written and practical assessments for each module conducted during the course

How are the courses delivered?

In small groups at our training site which has suitable equipment and practice facilities.
